Sunrise Tours is a family owned and operated company that was started in 1993. The company has grown steadily over the years, and now consists of 20 fantastic employees and offices in St. Louis, Indianapolis and Kansas City. We pride ourselves on delivering extremely high quality tour experiences at a fair price, and we consider repeat Sunrise Tours customers our most important marketing “tool”.



Day 1: Dakota Dunes

Saddle up for our Dakota Adventure! Travel to Dakota Dunes, SD for dinner and an overnight stay. D

Day 2: Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, the largest city in South Dakota, is our first stop in the Dakotas. Take a guided tour of the U.S.S. South Dakota Battleship Memorial, commemorating the lead ship of her class in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1947. After a visit to the triple waterfall at Falls Park and lunch at the Falls Overlook Cafe, visit the largest collection of art by renowned American artist Terry Redlin at the Redlin Art Center. B, L

Day 3: Bismarck

Tour the Hjemkomst Interpretive Center in Moorhead, MN including a Hopperstad Stave Church replica and the Hjemkomst Viking Ship. Journey across North Dakota to the capital city of Bismarck. Experience the state’s 600 million years of geologic past during a visit to the North Dakota Heritage Center. Head west into the North Dakota Badlands for a 2-night stay at the historic Rough Riders Hotel in the heart of downtown Medora. B, D

Day 4: Exploring Medora

Join our local expert for a guided tour of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, a habitat for bison, elk and prairie dogs where the Great Plains meets the rugged Badlands. Spend afternoon leisure time in the authentic Old West town of Medora or enjoy more time in the park and the Painted Canyon. Enjoy the nationally-acclaimed Pitchfork Steak Fondue dinner before we mosey over to the Burning Hills Amphitheatre for a live performance of the musical variety show, Medora Musical. B, D

Day 5: Deadwood

Journey south into Deadwood, South Dakota and see firsthand where legendary wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and other gold rush characters made their name in the historic town that puts the “wild” in Wild West. Continue into the Black Hills for a stop at Wind Cave National Park, where bison and elk roam on the prairie, and one of the most complex cave systems in the world is hidden below. Check in for a 2-night stay in Rapid City. B, L

Day 6: Black Hills

Enjoy spectacular close-ups as we take a jeep tour amidst herds of buffalo and elk through the rolling hills of Custer State Park. After lunch at the State Game Lodge, learn about the heritage of the plains Sioux at Crazy Horse Memorial and visit the iconic Mt. Rushmore National Monument, including a unique view and photo stop at the side profile of George Washington. B, L

Day 7: Badlands National Park

Experience the rugged beauty of Badlands National Park on a morning drive. Look for bighorn sheep and prairie dogs as you wind through the colorful geological formations that contain one of the world’s richest fossil beds. Visit the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site and Delta-9 Silo, where a missile from the Cold War arms race sits beneath the prairie. Continue to the capital of South Dakota, Pierre, for an overnight stay. B, D

Day 8: De Smet

After a guided tour of the South Dakota State Capitol building, head south to De Smet, the childhood home of writer Laura Ingalls Wilder and the setting of six of her books. Enjoy a guided tour and the chance to relive the pioneer days of growing up on the Dakota prairie. Overnight in Dakota Dunes. B, D

Day 9: Return home

Return to St. Louis with a greater appreciation of the days of yore in the Wild West. B
