Day 1: Fly to Liberia, Costa Rica Arrive in Costa Rica and feel the warmth of the equatorial sun. Liberia is in the same time zone as St. Louis – no jet lag! Overnight Liberia. D

Day 2: Campesino tour Meet a local family and tour their typical Costa Rican farm featuring traditional crops like black pepper, banana or coffee. Enjoy a delicious lunch prepared on a wood burning stove featuring products from the farm – an authentic Tico meal! Continue to Hotel Arenal Paraiso, a four-star hotel featuring views of Arenal Volcano, for a two-night stay. Unwind in the thermal spa at the Hotel (additional expense) for maximum relaxation. B, L

Day 3: Wildlife Refuge Experience a floating safari in the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, a protected wetland oasis since 1991, home to four species of monkeys, three-toed sloths, turtles, caimans and basilisks. B, L

Day 4: Monteverde Cloud Forest The fastest and most scenic way to get to the Monteverde cloud forest region is to cross Lake Arenal, the most important Lake in Costa Rica. Board a comfortable pontoon boat for a 40-minute ride across the manmade Lake, created in 1974 to provide hydroelectric energy for the developing country. Once in Monteverde, enjoy a walk in the cloud forest on the Selvatura Treetop Walkway, an incredible pathway through and above the rain forest! The series of pathways and suspension bridges, 90% of which leads through virgin rain forest, are flat and accessible to people of all abilities. See more than 50 species of butterflies in one of the largest butterfly gardens in the Americas before checking into four-star El Establo Mountain Hotel, featuring views of the Nicoya Gulf, for a two-night stay. Day 5: Monteverde Biological Reserve A cloud forest is a unique climate featuring high altitude and nearly 100% humidity throughout the year. Explore the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve on a guided excursion into the fascinating region, home to jaguars, pumas and over 450 species of birds, including the shy quetzal bird! B, D

Day 6: Tamarindo Travel to the arid Guanacaste region of Costa Rica for the sandy portion of your trip! Check into the Hotel Tamarindo Diria, a beachfront oasis known for its lush grounds and unforgettable sunsets, for a three-night stay. With 6 restaurants, 3 pools and a private beachfront garden leading to the most famous beach in Costa Rica, the Hotel is the perfect location to relax. B

Day 7: Palo Verde National Park Take a relaxing boat ride on the Tempisque River into Palo Verde National Park, an international mecca for bird-watchers and nature lovers. Keep your eyes peeled for crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas, tiger herons and more. Enjoy a traditional lunch before returning to the Hotel Tamarindo Diria for another spectacular sunset. B, L

Day 8: At leisure The day is yours to relax at the Hotel, explore the shops in Tamarindo, stroll the white sandy beach or try your luck at the Boutique Casino Diria. B, D
