Day 5: Hopi Reservation

Pass incredible views of Oak Creek Canyon’s brilliantly hued cliffs and rugged sandstone spires to enter the Navajo Nation and view the Grand Falls of Walnut Canyon that drop 18 feet more than Niagara Falls! Explore Old Oraibi, the oldest continually inhabited American settlement (1,000+ years), on the Hopi Reservation before heading to Grand Canyon National Park for an overnight stay right on the south rim in the rustic Thunderbird Lodge! Your journey to the Old West begins! Fly to El Paso, TX for a guided city tour and overnight stay. D

Day 2: White Sands National Park

Learn about the historic region where the Camino Real meets the American West when we visit the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. Continue to White Sands National Park, an incredible expanse of snow-white, gypsum sand dunes covering 275 square miles and rising to 60 feet. Day 1: Owensboro

Depart St. Louis and journey through America’s heartland to follow in the footsteps of three of its presidents. Arrive in Carter Township, IN to visit the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, and see where Abraham grew from youth to manhood and how his life as a rural farmer helped transform him into one of the greatest leaders our country has seen. Day 2: Hermitage

Retracing the path of Lincoln, arrive in Hodgenville and experience the nation’s first memorial to our 16th president, the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park. Day 5: God Bless America

Today we celebrate the 4th of July in our Nation’s Capital! A guided tour will educate and entertain as we tour DC and learn of its immense history. Explore the National Mall Smithsonian Museums and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival which is an exposition of cultural heritage held on the Mall featuring musicians, storytellers and craftspeople. Watch the “Rockets Red Glare” as the spectacular fireworks display lights up the night sky. Nothing beats seeing the fireworks against the DC skyline of monuments and memorials! B

Day 6: President homes

A freedom tour would not be complete without a visit to the homes of some of our fine presidents. This morning we depart for Mount Vernon, George Washington’s mansion, gardens and grounds. Then we’re off to Charlottesville, VA to tour Monticello, the estate of Thomas Jefferson. You will get an intimate look at the house Thomas Jefferson built and furnished for himself and his family including glimpses of the books and objects that reveal Jefferson’s sharp mind. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the Hotel 24 South. The hotel, which originally opened in 1924, is considered an excellent example of a Colonial Revivalist style with modern amenities. B, D

Day 7: George Washington National Forest

After some time to relax and explore the quaint community of Staunton, VA, continue our travels west, passing through the George Washington National Forest, to arrive in Lexington, KY for our overnight stay. B, D

Day 8: Woodford Reserve

Enroute home, stop at Woodford Reserve Distillery for a guided factory tour and tasting. Full of patriotic memories, arrive home this evening. B
