DAY 1: OMAHA
Saddle up for our Dakota Adventure! Fly to Omaha and take a short drive to Sioux Falls, SD, for dinner and an overnight stay. D
DAY 2: SIOUX FALLS
Sioux Falls, the largest city in South Dakota, is our first stop in the Dakotas. Take a guided tour of the U.S.S. South Dakota Battleship Memorial, commemorating the lead ship of her class in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1947. After a visit to the triple waterfall at Falls Park and lunch at the Falls Overlook Cafe, visit the largest collection of art by renowned American artist Terry Redlin at the Redlin Art Center. B, L
DAY 3: BISMARCK
Tour the Hjemkomst Interpretive Center in Moorhead, MN including a Hopperstad Stave Church replica and the Hjemkomst Viking Ship. Journey across North Dakota to the capital city of Bismarck. Experience the state’s 600 million years of geologic past during a visit to the North Dakota Heritage Center. Head west into the North Dakota Badlands for a two-night stay at the historic Rough Riders Hotel in the heart of downtown Medora. B, D
DAY 4: EXPLORING MEDORA
Join our local expert for a guided tour of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, a habitat for bison, elk and prairie dogs where the Great Plains meet the rugged Badlands. Spend afternoon leisure time in the authentic Old West town of Medora. Enjoy the nationally-acclaimed Pitchfork Steak Fondue dinner before we mosey over to the Burning Hills Amphitheatre for a live performance of the musical variety show, Medora Musical. B, D
DAY 5: DEADWOOD
Journey south into Deadwood, South Dakota and see firsthand where legendary Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and other gold rush characters made their name in the historic town that puts the “wild” in Wild West. Visit “Tatanka, Story of the Bison” to learn about the symbiotic relationship between the Lakota Nation and the iconic animal of the Great Plains. B, D
DAY 6: BLACK HILLS
Enjoy spectacular close-ups as we take a jeep tour amidst herds of bison and elk through the rolling hills of Custer State Park. After lunch at the State Game Lodge, learn about the heritage of the plains Sioux at Crazy Horse Memorial and visit the iconic Mt. Rushmore National Monument. B, L
DAY 7: BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK
Experience the rugged beauty of Badlands National Park on a morning drive. Look for bighorn sheep and prairie dogs as you wind through the colorful geological formations that contain one of the world’s richest fossil beds. Visit the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site and Delta-9 Silo, where a missile from the Cold War arms race sits beneath the prairie. Continue to Oacoma, where Lewis & Clark camped on the banks of the Missouri River, for a comfortable stay at the Arrowwood Cedar Shore Resort. B, D
DAY 8: OACOMA
Explore the Akta Lakota Museum, where the history, culture, legends, and art of the Lakota people of the Dakotas are preserved and displayed. Before departing the land of the Sioux, visit the brand-new Dignity of Earth and Sky, a towering Native American sculpture overlooking the Missouri River. Return to Omaha for a return flight home. We will send 3 key communications for your tour; “Get Ready” is your email confirmation and initial tour information sent upon registration, “Get Set” email will be sent about two months before departure, “Go” trip documentation mailing is sent via USPS 3-4 weeks before departure and will include your daily itinerary, luggage tags and final departure information.
Travel Protection is optional and highly recommended and can be purchased until the day before departure. We offer Travel Guard from AIG, which costs 8.5% of your tour, information about which will be sent with your Get Ready email.
Unless otherwise noted, your Sunrise Tour includes: Professional Sunrise Tour Director, meals as indicated, local step on guides including gratuity (international tour guide gratuity inclusion vary by tour), deluxe motorcoach transportation w/rest room, admission to activities and events as indicated, airfare from designated airports, transportation to/from designated airports from our convenient local pickup points*, luggage handling at hotels when available
We believe tipping is a personal and discretionary interaction between our guests and our staff. A typical gratuity for your Sunrise Tour Director and motorcoach driver may be $5-$7per person, per day on tour. Sunrise Shuttle drivers appreciate gratuities (suggest $5 per person) for excellent service as well. Our staff will not solicit gratuities or pass out envelopes.
We are happy to offer refreshments on most motorcoach travel days on tour. We recommend you bring a refillable water bottle to maintain healthy hydration.
If less than 4 people request a pickup point, we may ask that you choose another pickup point from which to join your Sunrise Tour.
If you would like to join a tour from a city not listed as a departure point, we would love to have you along! Please discuss arrangements with our friendly reservation team. From a departure city not listed, typical airfare will be +$100 higher than our published fare for domestic tours, and +$200 for international tours.
If you have a TSA precheck or Airline Rewards numbers, you MUST give those numbers to our reservations team at least 60 days before departure, otherwise they may not be applied.
Preferred seating may not be available on group air. In some cases, seats are not assigned until the airport. Your tour fare includes an economy seat on the flight; it does not include seat selection. Seat upgrades may be available at an additional cost.
To help make our tours the most comfortable in the business, we limit Sunrise Tours motorcoaches to 80% capacity, or 44 passengers on a coach built for 55. We reserve the right to amend this practice.
Your Tour Director will rotate seats on the motorcoach each day of your tour. A single fare does not guarantee two seats on coach; you may be seated next to another friendly Sunrise Tours guest.
